The quiet beauty of a lightning strike
Three second warning
Before the ground shakes
It's when the monster wakes
Don't stare into its eye
It beholds a soul
Too old
To play in the green grass
Or to swoon to the sounds of brass
On a summer night after the rain
Storms too big for teacups
Clinched fists
Strike like lightning
Love can leave a stain
Another day of thunder and pain

You built a tree house on top of your forest
Littered with splinters but still a home
Had I'd known
Storms make treetops sway
I would have stayed away
Waited for the sun the clear the way
For my great escape
I would ride the lightning
Follow forgotten tracks to jump my train
Take shelter from your tempered tempest
Rolling thunder and driving pain

I lie waiting for the calm before the storm
I wonder if it will ever come
