Okay
When we didn’t know each other.
Loved only who we knew.
Devotion tired of something.
Flaws out of focus.
Taxing sentimentality.
Maybe if we could care more?
They would be okay.
Strings pulled heavy limbs.
Surviving lies, rotten insides.
Minds eyes foggy.
Hearts buried in garbage
Maybe if they could care more?
We would be okay.
Thoughts turned into fire
Red heat to black coal
Strings broke, disorienting
Flesh singed, bones cracked.
No one cares forever
It will never be okay.
Sped into each other
Sweating compassion and sadness
Consolation gifted peaceful sleep.
Faces free of surmise,
Narcotic embrace, knit together
Restoration of life’s value
It’s okay to be okay.
