I remember the story of Icarus
ironed onto the ocean surface
like a patch, bleeding feathers
as the sun dashed into the dappled wet black
between the trees and the beetles.

I remember a time when I could breathe,
when I stood on the sidewalk and.
saw the sky without wanting to touch it.
