My heart is not
an ugly sweater knit
by a distant dying grandma;
yet once received, you simply
packed it away as food for moths
supposing a trip to Goodwill could be saved
when holiday parties request adornment in
something kitschy.

My heart is not
a sweater but I had hoped
to keep you warm
