You could hear them chew away at the fallen corpse
It's crisp burnt arms still outstretched, ironically shielding itself from death
The skin had burnt and dripped off the bones, the blazing heat caused the skin to bubble the night before
White teeth all but gleamed in the light, the eye sockets swollen and plastered with soot
Pieces clothing draped across femurs and skeletal remains of hands and hair still clung to the scalp(in patches)
Flies buzzed and landed, ******* the nutrients from the flesh and giving themselves a hearty meal
The body behind the first was charred as well
Leftovers of smoldering eyes still remained.
She had tried to protect her child to no avail
From the devastating power of nature.
I walked away,
Letting the maggots--
Enjoy their meal.
