all i have for you are words
countless permutations of letters that, when arranged in a line, i hope make sense.

all i have for you are words, and they aren’t much, but if i can get them in the right order,

they’ll be the sunlight that warms you up on the days that this earth is too cold and cruel to tread upon

they’ll draw laughter from its hiding place in your throat
coax a smile from your timid lips, as the world we live in isn’t always such a terrible place.

all i have for you are words, and they aren’t much, but maybe i can create for you a haven where you’re safe, your own space in between the lines

maybe i can create for you rainbows to come after the storm clouds of this reality,

give you the sun, the moon, and the stars without once leaving our atmosphere,

maybe even create a symphony of syllables so beautiful that it rivals that of your favorite song.

all i have for you are words, and i know they aren’t tangible like how an embrace is,
but if i can get them in the right order, maybe you’ll be able to feel them too.

let them remind you that you are loved, that everything will be alright without my having to lay a finger on your ethereal skin

they aren’t exactly hands to hold,
nor are they kisses when you need them most, but let mine remind you to rest when you’ve done all you can, remind your thoughts to slow down when they race by too fast.

my words are no substitute for the breeze that comes at the end of a mountain hike, but let them be that fresh breath of air in the midst of all the chaos

let them be the benevolent path that leads you home when you’re weary and you’re feeling a bit lost,

[‘cause it’s so easy to lose yourself in this labyrinth we call the universe.]

all i have for you are words, and they might not seem like much, but if i can arrange them right,

they can hold you in my stead when you are too far out of my reach and i can’t get to you

talk your lungs into breathing easy when panic sets in,

convince your erratic heart to cease its unsteady rhythm, ‘cause there’s no reason to be afraid,

no,

not when i’m still here.

not in flesh and bones,
but still,

here.

words may be simple strokes of lead, graphite, ink,
collections of vowels and consonants carried by the wind,
but if placed in the right order,
hold power, just as well as actions can

they will reach you, stir things within that maybe even actions

can’t.

[let me go back to the beginning]

all i have for you are words
countless permutations of letters that, when arranged in a line, i pray make sense.

all i have for you are words, and sometimes they will fail, but that does not mean i will stop trying to give you the sun, moon, and stars

stop trying to create for you rainbows
stop trying to hold you when i can’t be there in the flesh—

all i have for you are words,
but i promise you,
i mean them.

all i have for you are words,
and i promise,
i’ll keep leaving these here

should you need them.
