May 2019
oh my son, you gave me life
without you here i would have died
fell drunken deep into despair
and never woken to emerge
a flower breaking through the earth
delighting in the gift you are
the love i gave you have returned
and all the beauty, i have learned
from stretch marks to gray-haired adolescent angst
of motherhood and effervescent thanks
reflects the honor that was mine
to bear the fruit and drink the wine
of our sweet friendship’s blessed design
A mother's thoughts on Mother's Day
