Edges

I stand on a cliff side
On the edge peering around
Looking forward I see
A dark sea as it’s harsh waves
Crash down violently
On the rocks down below
That stick up at jagged point

I look up as breeze blows past
The skies are nearly black
The outline of large clouds
Sits on the horizon coming nearer
I cannot tell where the sky ends
And where the ocean begins
Another breeze goes by

My arms hug my body
I turn and look towards the land
I see the sun rising softly glowing
A small cottage to the side
Inviting me in, protection
From the ever growing storm
But my feet cannot move anymore

I stand at the halfway point
On the edge seeing both sides
And I, I do not know which way
I might go, will my feet carry me
Or will this storm consume me
The latter seems to be more likely
For now, I can only wait
