Moments

Thousands of moments
Trickled through her fingers
And into the quicksand of her life,
Helplessly sinking, heavy, lost.

Each moment
A tribute to the one long moment that was full of life, of him;
Until the final moment that she held him
and willed him to not leave.

That final futile moment slipped though her heart
Like a knife,
Severing the sacred vow and killing the fragile
Hope that had sustained her.

Still, the shadow of him danced half-hidden
In her gray heart;
Danced to the music of the memories that had
synchronized their lives and measured out their dreams.

Thousands of memories
Trickled through the fingers of her mind
and into the emptiness of her heart,
Gently stroking, stroking it back to life.
