The Long Walk Back
I had a father
bandaged with
quiet. And so
I also tasted
that silent
gauze.
I had a mother
drunk with
self-regard,
stumbling feeling
to feeling.
& so I felt
everything
enormously.
It took so long
to find balance.
I carved a voice
from white marble.
I opened my hands
and let things
escape.
It's not about
the damage,
it's the long
walk back.
