Outside the run down school lot
Down past the wilted fern
We sat down for a short while
To watch our pageant burn
But as I gazed in wonder
At the fire in the sky
I looked at you for answers
But you offered no reply

As your past and future mingled
You showed the ire in your eyes
The future you’s laid down to rest
But the child has stepped up high
One second we all understood
But I inquired as to why,
And so I looked at you for answers
But you offered no reply

The sun gleamed brightly on the marble
Steps that shine and lead up right
A figure stood among the crowd
Even gunfire deafened by the cries
“Look at how you ended up!
Why aspire just to die?”
We all looked at you for answers
But you offered no reply

Retreat back to the future
With us mired in our lives
The world around us set ablaze
But we admire it all this time
As the universe and consciousness
Conspire to survive
Nature looks at you for answers
“Silence” is your first reply.
