The Last Sunrise
He wakes up early in the morning
Like it was any other day
He didn't sleep at all last night
He tried his best to pray
His mind just keeps on wandering
Back to his troubled past
And now the day of reckoning
Has finally come at last
Fifteen years he's waited
Knowing this day would come
It's time to pay for his sinful deeds
And the things that he has done
He watches the clock, as seconds pass
For time, is not his friend
With only fifteen more minutes to go
Til this life he knows will end
Fifteen years to contemplate
As he thought of his life of crime
Ten more minutes and it will all be over
For he's running out of time
He keeps praying that the phone will ring
But the call just doesn't come
Just five more minutes, left to breathe
And then it will all be done
They strap him to a cold, steel table
And administered his I.V.
They ask him if he has any last words
He said, "God has forgiven me"
He turns his head, with a final gasp
And quietly closes his eyes
He woke up early this morning
And he saw, his last sunrise
