in the dark
she looks in the mirror
finding strength in bleakness
and sees nothing looking back
not even she wants her
who does?
not the stars
who defied nature to run from her
not the light
who cant help but feel overshadowed by her shadow
not herself
who cant help but wonder
not her tears
who run from her
for what they've seen inside of her
is much too ugly

she needs a break
and closes her eyes
sore from sadness
but they roll back and fall into her
fall into the valley
from which the stars are not visible
fall into the canyon
where the sun never rises
those sad eyes
are they why she feels heavy?
are they why her future
cannot be seen?
