The dawn is, but a distance memory
Ever warm in its presence
Yet never lasting for one essence
From a great fire to mere embers
Moments away from ashes
For the time has come
For this symbol of peace
Yet no matter what
No matter how dire
And how scared they are
Even when their backs are against the wall
They will stand tall
And see further than the giants
That stare them down
For they are our heroes
They are the light
In our darkest hour
In this time of need
Their dying embers will shine
With the fury of a thousand fires
And shine brighter than the sun
Their flame shall burn away this darkness
For the sake of our kind
They strike, it lands, the dust settles
Their great fire now extinguished
Their embers no longer bring warmth
They are stars that no longer shine
Forever they are present
In the hearts and minds of those
Who remember them
For all shall remember
Their last stand
