We got so familiar our hearts roamed together as if they grew up back to back,
So many ventures in so little time.
I knew the parts of yourself you’ve yet to meet,
And you’ve slept naked in the meadows of my mind.
My thoughts against your skin as gentle as a feather’s touch.
We blessed our words and talked of times which stained our veins with the image of our future together,
And sold our souls to be certain the colors would hold forever.
A cruel twist of fate, a mixture of intentional mistakes and the colors faded,
The heavens never waited to close the gates on our love.
Where’s God’s mercy you preachers speak of ?
Was it so sinful redemption couldn’t reach us ?
Time flies in the good times, all your fears on it’s wings, carrying them to the bliss of oblivion.
Leaving you with the courage to believe each other is all you’ll need,
And the willingness to do whatever it takes so you’ll both be pleased.
Then ever so suddenly those times are distant memories,
from which you recover.
For the bad times and good can’t exist one without the other,
A resemblance of what we were like together.
So maybe one day we can be victims of God’s mercy you preachers speak of,
And our souls reconcile to a point redemption can reach us.
