Heart beating fast;

Breathes leaving rapidly;

Thoughts racing;

Hands Trembling—

My instincts are reacting

To the moments we’re living

With you over there,

And Me right here.

I’m not under fire,

And these aren’t bullets

tearing through me,

But Baby, you’re ambushing

My feelings—my ****** instincts—

And it’s not even your fault.

I can’t help that my conscience,

nor my awareness of our world,

Isn’t my most attractive quality,

But I just want to know you’re safe, Honey;

I just want to keep you safe, Darling.

It’s my job to see every angle,

And I’ve been trained to see Danger’s

Cold, Unexpected Grasp.

But, above all these uncertainties

And protective feelings,

I trust how smart you are,

And I know you’ll stay out of harm’s way.

But I’ll keep praying…just as I always do.
