There is a girl I know
Her heart encased behind a wall of stone
Hurt in the past
Looking for nothing in the present
Leaving the future unknown.

When I learned these things
I knew that I had become ensnared
Needing to see what lay beyond,
And so I took the call to break through the blockade.

Everyday I chip away chisel in hand and
Each day I hear over the wall her heart beat
Such a beautiful melody!
A rhythm crying to be free, yet
Veiled, suffocated by blocks of marble
Like a diamond wrapped in granite.

Except for two hazel orbs that
Grant me the ability to see,
Clear as day,
The garden glistening perfectly in the morning dew.

And it gives me hope that my task is not in vein.
