We shared something timeless, he and I. He said perfect things and I listened to them endearingly. The words that poured from his mouth were penetrating, yet withdrawn. I never believed he said everything he had to say and that was quite alright because neither did I.

You see, we both understood that in the end we will both be shipwrecked. Our little boats raging against death and the calling sea will falter and we may someday rest among the legions of the ocean that is yet to be discovered. We are the ghosts of who we hoped we'd be.
