The Blanket Of Pretense
Pretense,
It is something you carry around
Like it is a part of you,
Like it is who you are,
Like it is engraved in your heart.
Pretending to be someone
You are not.
Hiding your tears
In the rain
Pretending to ease the pain.
Hiding under the blanket of lies,
Wearing the happy mask
When inside you are crying.
What are you hiding from?
Whom are you lying to?
Your pretense,
It is suppressing the truth,
Piling up the emotions inside.
When your heart aches
Let your eyes weep.
'cause pretending to laugh
Won't **** your grief.
Why build a castle of grief inside
When you can
Shed it all out.
Why burden your soul
With such a lie
When all you need is
To try.
Remember,
The world of pretense
Is a cage
Not a cocoon.
You can lie to yourself
Only for so long
