A nightmare is a fear your heart has
when you're fast asleep.
It lurks around the corners:
It wants to play hide and seek.

They can't be taught,
Nor can be tamed.
It slices and dices your sleep,
Yet it simply wants to play.

It knows the game is over
when you wake up in a cold sweat.
Nightmares feed upon the horrors
that you'd rather just forget.
