In towers raised high to reach the sky
men forsake wisdom until time arrives
to pass from this land and into the night
from this world of goodness that's given them life

In richest palace, both king and queen
struggle with sick pride, struggle with greed
as they don gold crowns and sit on their thrones
their far poorer subjects die starved and die cold

Historic records, accounts of deeds
speak of the bravery of souls in need
faced with injustice, they did raise the sword,
and fought to bring down their oppressive lords

In graveyards silent and buried deep
everyone here will lie fast asleep
there'll be no mourners and no one to weep
heaven and hell will hold their full keep
