The Lonely Tree
The lonely tree on the hill
Stands through balm and chill;
Wondering where he went to
For there was once two.
One broad, strong and bold;
The other, meek and cold.
But when they came
They brought nothing but pain.
The came with ax and saw
Walking with a mighty god.
They stopped with faces of glee
On the hill of the lonely tree.
The god grasped the saw
For there was a plan for the broad.
Cut him down and load him up,
But the lonely tree did not know for what.
They laughed and grinned, still full of glee
But the lonely tree will never forget the stump at his feet.
