How are you, they ask; I’m fine I say,
This will happen everyday,
Are you sure, they reply,
Of course, I lie.

Am I fine though?
I’m no longer sure,
I’m so used to giving that answer I must sound like a bore.

“Fake it till you make it”, it’s a fine quote to learn,
But fake it too much you’ll become fake in turn.

Just because I put on a smile, or I laugh, or I try,
Doesn’t mean I won’t break down and cry.

The lesson to learn here is to notice the signs,
Just because someone says they’re fine at least try to read between the lines.

I’ve gotten so good at pretending to be happy, to be okay, to be sure,
That genuine happiness is now a territory obscure.
