was held on May 12, 1998 at the Stan Sheriff Arena
in Honolulu, Hawaii. Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad & Tobago
was crowned by Brook Lee of the United States;

& beauty queen won Miss Trinidad & Tobago Universe 1998
becoming the second Miss Universe [in history] from Trinidad & Tobago
and the fourth woman of African heritage to be appointed Miss Universe.

Eighty-one contestants competed that year.

is a Venezuelan beauty pageant titleholder who
was Miss Venezuela 1997, winner of the Best in
Swimsuit award & first runner-up to Miss Universe 1998.
