Secret Stars

I stand outside amongst the fields enveloped by the night

I stare out to the tiny stars, my only source of light

The moon is on vacation and the black is inky thick

To set my mind a'wandering is nighttime's favorite trick

I listen to the crickets' song and slowly contemplate

On love and life and peace and strife and what will be my fate

I'm sure the answers lie out there, been written in the stars

I try to find the message but it always seems so far

I head inside my house tonight, it's not completely clear

I know that many secrets hide within that black frontier

I've spent a thousand nights outside, I'm sure that I'll spend more

For out there wait the answers to the questions I explore
