I sit there and read the words. I'm sitting in this car.
"Objects in rearview mirror appear closer than they are."

I laugh to myself as I sit and reminisce.
I close my eyes thinking of a deeper meaning than this.

"This," what I referring to is the days of my youth.
I open my eyes to see a young boy in the rear-view.

It's me! Look how young and a bad little thing I was!
Mama chasing with the belt, whipping like she's smelling blood.

I'm now in a kitchen and I see my grandma!
Cooking my favorite, beans and rice, "Come and get it hon!"

I smile to myself and say, "How I do miss her!
When she was alive we use to have so much fun."

There's my cousin! Lampshades on our heads we often play.
"One day you'll sit back and laugh at this," mama use to say.

Look at me jumping off the house! I use to think this was fun.
I'm now saying to myself, "Wow. I was a dangerous son of a gun."

There's the girl who stole my heart! She's truly my first love.
So beautiful looking like an angel sent from up above.

There I am telling "yo mama jokes" with all of my friends.
Drinking like a school of fish, it was the Gin that made us sin!

Now I see me much older now. Marriage is the setting.
Starting to make a family now...this is the perfect setting.

My son is now born. He is such a beautiful boy.
I'm making changes now. No longer life is just a toy.

The joy, achievements and failures of life is like turning the page.
I'm sitting back in amazement of how I've come of age.

I look in the rear-view...all is gone. In tears, in this car.
Objects in rear-view mirror appear closer than they are.
