Sadness You Old Friend

Her shaky hands unlatch the window She greets sadness as an old friend As their time together goes on Her wounded rhymes play out into the afternoon She whispers soft verses of white winter hymns As night falls Sadness And the dancing shadows Become her only companions She shuts her window And locks it tight Hoping sadness never departs again
