Her shaky hands unlatch the window

She greets sadness as an old friend

As their time together goes on

Her wounded rhymes play out into the afternoon

She whispers soft verses of white winter hymns

As night falls

Sadness

And the dancing shadows

Become her only companions

She shuts her window

And locks it tight

Hoping sadness never departs again
