Stay and play with me awhile
For, surely, the world
Can go on without us,
Surely, it won't notice
Our absence

Come, let us leave now
Before we grow up
Suddenly and forget
We are children

Let us wake the sun up
To keep us company,
and write our names
On birthday balloons
To send to the skies
Hoping Jesus would name
Angels after us

(Tell me, does He know
How to read
Little, fragile hearts?)

So stay a bit longer
Please, and wait
Until I have carefully
Picked the flowers
By the stream
To remind me of
Our picnic
After the rain
With the Blue Fairies and
Pink Bunnies
Of our imagination

This done, I shall
Wave my hand
And say goodbye
To Make-Believe and
Hide-and-Seek
Not too sadly...
I just wonder,
Will there ever come
A better playmate than you?
