Protected Heart
Innocent mind of a toddler
Her bright blue eyes have only wonder
Questions she doesn’t know to ask yet
Reasons to be scared don’t show
Protected by her shadow
Learn to eat
Learn to dress
Learn to smile
Her heart is secure
Within her mind she holds so close
A woman of great strength
Persistent to hide the truths
Faced with the greatest challenge of her life
Smiling through it all
Laughter fills the hospital bed
Fear has no place here
Always surpassing the obstacles
She delivers with force
Proud of who she’s become
Who she has yet to be
Wife
Mother
Daughter
Sister
She breaks all barriers
Continues to succeed with each level
I am mindful of her needs
I am careful with her heart
Protected at every moment
We are one at our core
Even when we scare each other
We can bend but never break
