i once knew a boy who was made of the world
he held sunlight in the back of his throat
and lit up the world when he sang
his eyes were made of embers
and his hair from the stormy sea
his breath smelled of morning dew
and his voice was the forest rising from a long sleep
he asked me to breathe him in
and hold him there
when the world was dark and gray
and when i let him go, he said,
he would take me far away
where beauty and everything are the same.
