Dear Parents
Teach her to read
before you train her to cook
she might create her own recipes
and write her own books
teach her to love herself
before she loves a man
she will nurture her soul in ways no one else can
teach her to earn
before you teach her to request
she will learn to make her own money
to build and invest
teach her to understand her body
before she aims to please a man
she will embrace her sexuality
in ways men won't undertsand
teach her to be independent
before she seeks help
she will always find strength in and of herself
let her know that she is power
and that God is her source
she will become an icon , an obstinate force.
