Your mother’s door is closed
But you’ve done nothing wrong,
It’s not your fault so don’t punish yourself,
You are not to blame, there is no shame.

This is normal they don’t mean to push you away,
You’re not being punished in any way,
You are not evil, mad or sad,
you are not to blame, there is no shame.

Parents’ divorce, fathers move away,
They still love you, you have done nothing wrong,
Your angry and confused, too young to comprehend,
Don’t blame yourself, there is no shame.

Your locked inside me, through guilt and fear,
Trapped by the pain of the hurt you felt,
Punishing yourself year after year,
When you are not to blame, when you should feel no shame.

It is time to move on, step out in the world,
Time for the child to grow and leave the fear behind,
Accept you are normal, no different to the rest,
There is no blame and there is no shame.
