Holding back tears
is a full-time job
that you must never
think about.
For if you do
the thoughts will come,
and broken dreams
and lack of innocence-
One more drop
will break the dam,
the straw that broke
the camel's back.
Then once the clouds have gathered,
the rain will come
and the storm is raging
and you'll cry
about the mosquito you killed
on your way home from school-
and there will be nothing
left unsaid.
A storm
with no thunder,
a lighthouse
missing a light.
Unpredictable, dangerous
is what you will be.
So don't think about letting it out
when there's nobody to let you back in,
think about the sun instead.
