I will be the barricade, I'll be the fence when they attack, My blood will flow; red and slow, Tears won't be shed by me, I'll stand tall with dignity, Even when down on my knees, My spirit will fly, When others say i'm wrong, Still i'm prepared to die!
The above poem is based on a speech delivered from the dock by Nelson Mandela at the Rivonia Treason Trial, 20 April 1964. Below is a small section of that inspirational speech, 'I have fought against white *******, and i have fought against black *******. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which i hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which i am prepared to die.'
