When a lover dies the pain is hard to live with,
An escape is what you need,
Something to relieve the tension,
A momentary relief,
So you take a pill,
Smoke a joint,
Drink a pint or twelve,
Cut your arm,
Break a windowpane,
Anything to hide the shame.

The shame I feel,
I feel ashamed that my strength failed,
I couldn't pull you through,
And in the darkness where you lay,
Forgiveness from you I pray.

The stars twinkle as always,
The sun sparkles as always,
The Earth revolves as always,
My heart no longer feels,
My heart no longer feels,
It's turned cold.
