A strange land
For a summer farewell
Dark states of mind
By the Fen River

A time we ruled the world
When dancing was allowed
A river- like belt
Around our waists.

My winter clothing I give to you
I’m afraid you will be cold
But trees will flower again next year
Who will stay in this place?

Now I return home
My hair is grey
My accent assured
You smiled to ask

“Where are you from?”
