The lights from the city burn through the night
setting the world on fire
illuminating the blackest corners
of mind and matter.

Buildings rise from the ground
towering over all
casting shadows over
even the most wealthy powerful and strong.
They are but dust in comparison
specks swept beneath the rug.

People come and go
A steady stream of consciousness
Flowing through the streets
Business to be dealt with
Always far from home.

Sirens wail
slicing through the air
a silent chill
an electric thrill
as danger flirts with death.
