Run Away

A skidding car sounds from my window

and quick feet scale the steps

Two short taps brush the wood

and our incomplete bodies embrace

Three fingers caress my cheek

and trembling lips skim my ear

Four words collide

"Baby let's run away"

Five sparkling tears escape my restless eyes

and his face lights up with hope

Six nods swaddle a smile

and hands clasp tightly

Seven seconds spent looking back

and as we drive away

I know why I fell in love
