Couldn't sleep. Watched the sun rise
It was no surprise
When you showed up
With a big coffee cup
We were sitting on the bleachers
Imitating nocturnal creatures
Your eyes flared
I think you were scared
That I wasn't sleeping
That some problem was creeping
From the background to the foreground
Without a notice or sound
And I wasn't telling you.
Because I refused to believe it was true
