When you've double crossed your own heart
When it's only your hand that tore your soul apart
How can you ask for sympathy?
How could the world agree?
When my own worst enemy is the face in the mirror that's
Screaming back at me.
There's no fool like an old foolΒ
Except for the fool who never seems
To learn
That to take true love for granted
Is to watch your future burn.
So light a cigarette and pull yourself a chairΒ
And look closely at a man
Lost in dark despair
Let the best love slip so he did
Didn't think to say
'Baby, I'm not looking after you
Please won't you lead the way?'
