I lay in the church pew
Stare at the dimly lit chandeliers
Underneath that tree
And feel a quiet calm
I am not overwhelmed
Nor am I bored
Church choir screams "Alleluia"
While babes cry for the death of our Lord
The Lord they don't know
The Lord we don't know
A wooden stick new, takes time to burn
May I be worn and used so the flame ignites quick
And burns me into ashes
For the flame does not hurt
But eases all pain
Into this quiet peace
Of this un-ending pew
And we all sing
Amen
