Last Day in May

by @willadean-wright

No sun rises... no sunsets Upon this gray and weepy sky Falls hard upon this tired day Arms full of fresh cut daisies Raindrops kiss the roses sweet I take to my love... who waits for me I fight hard...the gloom and sadness I walk over soldier’s feet To see a field of flowers On freshly mown grass And my love... who waits for me Still no warmth of sun To kiss my cheek and warm my bones To chase the shadows from the trees To free the birds from sheltered leaves To read the names carved out in stone For my love... who waits for me Puddles run from gravel road Form tiny rivers down the hill My heart is torn in tatters My mind is shattered For my love... who weeps with me I search and find your name in stone I look up to see an old man kneel and cry My flowers are wet...my heart is heavy The die's been cast My memory stands still With my love... who waits for me Who would have thought I'd walk alone? With time enough to share No last chance...or drunkards luck For my love... who waits for me Reality sinks in and I know It's time to leave I throw kisses to the wind I whisper soft...good-bye I can't help but cry... For my love... who waits for me
