Floating throughout an enchanted wood
A curiosity hovers where once we stood
Showing me every inch of your being
Gratitude unmatched, unbelievable seeing
Your smile so close in front of my face
An intimate dose, true love we chased
We rose to such heights with you on my shoulders
Shunning our frights, we couldn't be bolder
Then a river began to flow
Creating a valley, judgement from mo
Why criticize me,
for wanting them to see
The side of the river
you used to deliver
This beautiful truth and our shining spirit
Undeniable proof of the goodness we exhibit
You're used to being dropped in this way
But I jumped in the river and said not today
Stability was something I could not provide
Without scaring you more, on this uncertain ride
I'd been swimming for months and enjoyed it
But your muscles had not yet adapted
You promised our spirits would never part
I'm only human and I have a heart
As we walk in separate directions
We can admit each other's imperfections
I'm not the last guy you'll tell to go away
But maybe I'm one that will endeavor each day
To build the bridges you burn
Stand up for himself and wait my turn
No matter how many times you knock me down
I will stand up, I will not drown
You admire this strength, this loving acceptance
I'm truthfully here without any insistence
That we share our lives in any way
Or that we shouldn't desire to stray
Saying goodbye makes me respect you more
For choosing a path and yearning to grow
I need you to know I'm doing the same
Without lying to myself or playing a game
Magic surrounds us everywhere we go
and together I thought it was an unhindered flow
Something quite special, even during the mess.
And I hope you don't settle for anything less.
