War and Protest
As blood sprays the ground,
I stand,
Gun in hand.
All I see is death;
Now that I’m here,
I am in this war.
Blood and limbs fly.
I am surrounded,
With the shouts of death,
And the shouts of pain.
I close my eyes to wonder.
I close my eyes to think;
A sudden chill overcomes me,
A sudden silence falls.
We’ll never be heard,
until we speak.
Nothing will end,
until we shout.
People die,
for others to live.
People live,
having seen others die.
We’ll never be heard,
until we speak.
Nothing will end,
until we shout.
A drop of blood,
Pulses from my heart.
I fall to the ground,
Clutching my chest.
The gun I’ve regretted,
Drops down by my side.
The pain that I’ve felt,
Slowly fades from my mind.
I fall,
Dead and motionless.
*One more ribbon,
hanging from a mother’s door.
One more funeral,
for friends to attend.
We’ll never be heard,
until we speak.
Nothing will end,
until we shout.
