I could see the world unraveling at
supersonic speed, spinning like a whirlpool
when he shut his eyes.

The ringing in my ears seemed to quieten
as he opened them.

There was a loud thumping. Steady, quick. So loud. What was that sound? Was it my heart?

The dust particles around us then came into focus, swaying their graceful dance, performing pirouettes in the air.

He blinked once, twice.

His mouth started to open, then it shut again.
He didn't say a word.

But he let my hands go.

*It was my heart, you know. The thumping.

Of course it was. Do you think it could've been his too?
