The Fire Burns
Poems
Oct 2016
The Blazing Trail
The bridge I just traversed in the past
on it I left a stream of gas
over my shoulder flick a match
feel the heat and hear it catch
Light tomorrow with the flames
I just play a one way game
looking back is not a choice
listening to a future voice
They say you can never go home
so an eternal path I roam
leaving a trail of flames behind
it is a one way state of mind
I have memories, but that's all
behind too many rivers in which to fall
as all the bridges have been burned
even Madison county has been spurned
Ashes behind, but ahead is bright
as I walk briskly into the night
the fire burns on my tail
as I blaze a future trail
