The River Stone's Lament
Am I alone?
Like a river stone, thrown on the beach;
out of reach
of my freshwater home.
Where I was free to roam.
The currents rolled me along.
With my family going strong.
No moss or algae here,
our skins always stay clear.
Occasionally stuck,
in the muck.
Waiting for the wet season,
the only reason
we ever stop till now.
I was caught in the fork of a tree.
The flood carried us to the sea.
I was dumped from my woody perch.
To the salty bottom in the surf.
High tide brought and stranded me here
possibly forever I fear
