Oh, how could you ever love
a nameless man?
Oh, and how soon
would you ever forget me
A single day
and a single night
and I am gone from your mind.
Oh, my heart is a tragedy
of grief
when I fear
that I no longer live
within your heart.
Oh, does your pride
say to your heart
that it shall ascend
to the throne of heaven
and write your name among the glittering stars
that shine in the black velvet of night.
Oh, how I often times feel
that my life I have lived as a fool
that grabs for straws
and wishes for the impossible
when your love
has seemed like a phantom
slipping through the dark of night.
Oh, and then hope dawn in my heart
when I only catch
of love shining in your heart.
Oh, don't you know
that with the sight from your earthly eyes
you can't know
the path a single life can take
or the value of a soul.
Oh, my love
look into the depths of your heart
and try to measure if you can
the value of your soul.
Oh, do this first
and then you can measure
the value of mine.
Oh, or  peer into
the days and years to come
and they to see the path
your own life shall take.
Oh, don't you know
God alone can measure the soul
and see the path our live shall take.
Oh, my love be kind
when you seek to measure
my hearts worth
and the love that it holds.
For I know that with its last beating
of my heart
your name shall be on
the last breath from my lips.
