FISH

I never knew my heart was a fish
just swimming around inside my chest
when you were around it fluttered
unaware it was about to be snared
you, the fisherman who reeled it in
had no fight from my fish
but i didn’t want my heart to be a carp
released so quick after capture
I wanted it to be a salmon or trout
devoured and savoured.
