Oh, my heart beats.
Oh, how my heart beats to its sacred song
of a love
that God has placed
within my mortal frame
and no power on earth
can take away
its sacred song of love.
Oh, neither angels
nor demons
nor all the powers of hell
can take away
the song of love for you
that lives within my heart.
Oh, how my heart
sings its sacred song
of infinite longing
and fill my imagination
with sweet dreams of you.
Oh,  your lovely
frame and face
forever haunts me
with an infinite longing.
And I know that I must
put my life on the line
endangering life and limb
all to hold your lovely body
forever!
Never to let you go.
Oh, there is no pain
I would not suffer
and no distance I would not go
to win the precious love
from your heart.
Oh, how can I sing
such a love song
that would make you feel
all of the love that I feel for you?
Oh, you hold such a power
upon my heart
like a knife
that would sever
all the fibers of my soul.
For only you can choose
whither I live
or whither I die!
Oh, if you were to take away
the love for me
that lives within your heart
and hide that burning flame
far from my longing eyes
there would be no hope
for me to live on.
For I would only be a dead thing
whose heart
like some mechanical thing
beats on.
Oh, don't you know
that all of life
would drain from my soul?
And I would become
cold and dead like a stone
that has neither
heart nor soul.
Oh, no grave can ever be so deep
and no grave ever so cold
as that lifeless cold grave
that would wait for me
as the grave you dug
with your loveless heart.
Oh, how my grieving heart
would swivel
into a dead and rotten core!
Oh, to you
my heart sings its love song
that will never be silent
like the holy angels
that sing before God's throne.
And my love shall forever remain
for all the forevers
that shall ever be.
